July/August 2007
The arrival of Summer is uplifting everywhere; but especially so in the North. The dark days of winter are replaced with long hours of sunlight, or in some places constant sunshine.
Summer also inspires us to seek the company of others, both old friends and new acquaintances. This year it follows on the heels of our expansion into four new communities in the Kitikmeot region. We are pleased to provide a competitive choice into these communities with lower airfares and our award-winning Aurora class service. This new expanded service is the culmination of 10 years of efforts by our 100 per cent aboriginal ownership group. It further strengthens the bond between communities in the North and all of us who travel for business and pleasure throughout the North. It is the beginning of a new era in northern air travel.
Speaking of new eras, I wanted to use this forum to let you know that after over three years here at Canadian North I will be moving to a new opportunity in the Montreal area as president and CEO of Oceanex. For the next several months Carmen Loberg will return to the helm of Canadian North. Carmen is no stranger to many of you since he lead Canadian North as president for several years. Carmen is also president and CEO of our parent company (Norterra).
Canadian North is a great big family of people all working to make the North a better place to live. I will greatly miss all these business and personal relationships, our unabashed commitment to the communities in the North, all our dedicated employees and each of you that are part of our continual success.
I am very proud of the growth of Canadian North. Thanks to your support we continue to grow in our three major business units of cargo, charter and passenger service. Your belief in our people, our business philosophy and our long term northern community support initiatives have allowed us to expand and reach new heights.
On a very personal level I will miss living along the Great Slave Lake in Yellowknife, watching the northern lights, fishing under the midnight sun and the hundreds of experiences that make this land so special.
Best wishes always and welcome aboard Canadian North.
Seriously and Sincerely,
Tom Ruth President of Canadian North
